In 2013, Plastic Surgery Procedures continued to Rise
Plastic surgery continues to be popular among Americans, and its rise in popularity in 2013 may have been partly due to innovations and technological advances in the field. For the fourth consecutive year, rates of plastic surgery in the US have grown steadily, according to the most recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The ASPS believes innovative new products and technology advances may be responsible for 2013’s plastic surgery popularity.
So what products and technologies appeared in 2013? Among the new devices approved by the FDA in 2013 were two types of form-stable silicone gel breast implants, and a new hyaluronic acid dermal filler. Innovations are important for plastic surgery, because they provide you with more options, as well as improved safety and effectiveness in some cases.
In the US in 2013, surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures rose 3 percent from 2012. Reconstructive procedures rose 2 percent – within reconstructive procedures, breast reconstruction procedures increased 4 percent.
