Tummy Tucks Serving Denver, Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont and Northern Colorado
Achieving a toned, flat stomach can often be difficult and elusive.
You may put in all the hard work required by eating a healthy diet, getting lots of exercise, and doing crunches every day only to find that your efforts haven’t yielded the results you desire. This is quite normal. For many people, factors beyond their control such as genetics, the aging process, prior pregnancies and weight fluctuations can make it challenging to maintain flat abs.
At Gonyon Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery, we can perform a tummy tuck to help you put the finishing touches on your workout efforts and achieve the toned abdomen you desire. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a body contouring procedure performed to remove excess fat and skin from your abdomen.
All tummy tucks are not created equal. Dr. Gonyon believes that in order to achieve the best results, all tummy tucks should include liposuction and muscle tightening. While some surgeons may consider liposuction an additional surgery, we include liposuction on all of our tummy tuck surgeries. By using liposuction with a corset technique muscle tightening, weakened or separated abdominal muscles will be brought together to create a firmer, smoother abdomen and more dramatically improved waistline.
You can learn about your tummy tuck options and receive individualized treatment recommendations by speaking with Dr. Denis Gonyon in person. Please call 970-624-7979 today to schedule a free consultation. We proudly serve patients in Fort Collins and throughout the Northern Colorado area.

Benefits of a Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck is an effective way to create a flatter, smoother stomach that is more proportionate and complimentary to your overall figure. You can experience a variety of benefits from your abdominoplasty procedure, including:
- More toned, fit appearance in the stomach region
- Tighter abdominal muscles
- Improved appearance of stretch marks
- Elimination of loose, hanging skin caused by weight loss or prior pregnancies
Your tummy tuck can also provide several important psychological benefits. Many people experience a boost in self-confidence due to their improved appearance. In addition, if you’ve recently lost a significant amount of weight, your tummy tuck results can provide you with the motivation necessary to maintain a healthier, more active lifestyle moving forward.
Am I a Candidate for Abdominoplasty?
A tummy tuck may be right for you if you are dissatisfied with:
- Saggy skin hanging around your midriff
- Excess fat and skin protruding from your abdominal area
- Weakened or separated abdominal muscles
Due to genetics, your abdomen may have always had this appearance. Others may have been left with drooping skin after significant weight loss, which can eliminate fat but not stretched skin. Oftentimes another factor can be pregnancy, which can stretch the abdominal wall, leaving those muscles inelastic and loose. A tummy tuck may be the right way to address these situations in order to restore a slimmer tummy appearance.
Often Dr. Gonyon will perform a tummy tuck as part of a mommy makeover. The procedure is very effective at addressing many of the issues impacting your abdominal region as a result of pregnancy and can play a crucial role in helping you restore the figure you enjoyed prior to having children.
You may also be a good candidate for a tummy tuck if the fat deposits and extra skin are concentrated in a small area beneath your navel.
The only way to know for certain whether you can benefit from a tummy tuck is to visit Dr. Gonyon. During your free consultation, you can tell Dr. Gonyon what you would like to improve in your abdominal area or other areas of your body. Then he can explain if a tummy tuck can achieve the goals you have in mind and answer your questions about the procedure.
You should discuss the following factors with Dr. Gonyon during your consultation, as they may affect your results:
- Are you near your ideal weight? If you continue to lose significant weight after a tummy tuck, more excess skin may result. You should be within 30 pounds of the ideal weight you want to maintain.
- Do you plan to become pregnant in the future? A tummy tuck will not interfere with a pregnancy, but the pregnancy is likely to adversely impact the results of your procedure, stretching the tightened muscles and skin
Your Customized Tummy Tuck Procedure
Dr. Gonyon will customize your tummy tuck procedure to address your unique needs and aesthetic goals. He will evaluate factors such as the amount of excess fat and skin, the tightness or looseness of the abdominal muscles and your cosmetic goals when devising your treatment plan. Based on these factors, Dr. Gonyon will recommend one of the following techniques:
- Standard tummy tuck
- Mini tummy tuck
- Circumferential tummy tuck
The standard, or traditional tummy tuck, removes loose, sagging skin and excess fat across the abdominal area. A long incision is made across the lower abdomen. If the muscles lying vertically across the abdomen are stretched and separated, then Dr. Gonyon will tighten them with sutures. Abdominal fat and skin is reshaped and repositioned, and then excess abdominal skin is removed.
For only minimal sagging and excess fat of the abdominal area, a mini tummy tuck technique may be used. In this technique, a much smaller incision is made in the area below the navel. Using this incision, Dr. Gonyon can remove a smaller area of moderate sagging below the belly button. Tightening of the abdominal muscles may or may not be performed, depending on the condition of your muscles and your goals.
Some tummy tuck candidates have sagging skin not only around the abdomen, but also around the sides of the lower back. This more extensive skin sagging may be eliminated with an extended or “circumferential” tummy tuck. Using a slightly longer incision than the other techniques, Dr. Gonyon can remove the excess fat and skin extending from the abdomen around to the lower back.
For any of these techniques, liposuction may be used in conjunction to achieve the optimal result.
Choosing a Tummy Tuck Surgeon
The plastic surgeon performing your tummy tuck should be committed to achieving your best aesthetic results and making sure you are a good tummy tuck candidate. Your surgeon must also have the proper certifications and experience to achieve these results. When choosing a plastic surgeon, make sure you evaluate the following factors:
- Board certification and professional affiliations
- Experience performing tummy tuck procedures and a track record of beautiful results
- Surgical facilities
Your plastic surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This type of certification is voluntary, and to attain it a surgeon must have:
- Graduated from an accredited medical school
- Fulfilled five years of resident surgeon training after graduation
- Concentrated two of the five years of resident training in plastic surgery
- Passed written and oral examinations testing plastic surgery knowledge
By achieving board certification, a surgeon has demonstrated a commitment to and mastery of plastic surgery. You may also want to consider a tummy tuck surgeon who is active in the community and who belongs to relevant professional associations. Dr. Gonyon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and he belongs to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The experience of your surgeon plays an important role in the results you achieve. Therefore, you should choose a plastic surgeon who has made tummy tucks a primary focus of their practice and has extensive experience performing the procedure. It’s also a good idea to get a sense of the results the surgeon typically achieves by viewing their tummy tuck before and after photos.
As you are choosing a plastic surgeon for your tummy tuck, you should ask where your procedure will be performed. Some surgeons will use a hospital while others have their own surgical facility. Ask whether the facility being used is certified by a recognized accrediting agency. Your safety should be a priority, and your plastic surgeon should have the surgical equipment and facilities to minimize tummy tuck risks.
At Gonyon Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery, our surgical facility features operating rooms certified by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, which means we have met high standards of safety. We think your experience should be as comfortable and relaxing as it is safe. Therefore, our recovery rooms and consultation rooms are designed to feel luxurious and comforting.
