Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Gonyon Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery
The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Denis Gonyon understands that a breast cancer diagnosis can be devastating. Over the years, he has helped countless women with their breast cancer reconstructive journey. He knows that every woman must decide for themselves whether breast cancer reconstructive surgery is going to be a part of their breast cancer recovery or not. It is an extremely personal decision. He is honored to be able to provide his cosmetic and reconstructive expertise to woman to answer any questions that they may have during this difficult time. It is his mission to provide women with respect, excellent clinical care, and gentle compassion as they complete their breast cancer journey.
Dr. Gonyon can reconstruct one or both breasts to restore pre-diagnosis shape, appearance, and symmetry. He is experienced in the most innovative techniques for breast cancer reconstructive surgery; including implant-based reconstruction and breast reconstruction using fat grafting. Dr. Gonyon understands that during this time his patients will likely have questions and concerns that arise regarding their breast reconstructive surgery and he will take the time to personally address any unique needs. Our team understands that breast cancer is stressful on the mind and body and we want to help make the breast reconstruction portion of recovery as low stress as possible. Dr. Gonyon works closely with the patient’s general surgeon, oncologist and primary physicians to determine an individual breast reconstruction path that is right for them and will leave them feeling more balanced and comfortable after their mastectomy.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Gonyon reviews patients medical history, cancer diagnosis and treatment and discusses the options available for breast reconstruction surgery. He works directly with their general surgeon and patient to decide on a course of action that is best for their specific needs. If it is determined at the initial consultation that immediate reconstruction is the best option, Dr. Gonyon operates with many general surgeons in Northern Colorado at the facility of their choice and can perform breast reconstruction during the same surgery as the patient’s mastectomy. The recovery process could differ from patient to patient depending on the type of mastectomy, the type of reconstruction and other treatment regimens. During the consultation with Dr. Gonyon, patients have the chance to discuss their specific recovery schedule and see breast reconstruction before and after photographs of patients in the various stages of the process.
